I covet the tender bed-time moments with my mother. The course “Black France” concentrated on French colonialism and its effects of Africans in French, as well as in the French Colonies. As the first stirrings of revolution begin, Verity must decide where her loyalties truly lie. Against this political backdrop, Verity Newton is a young woman with many friends among the rebels, yet she works as a governess for an upper-class magister. However, the so-called rebel mechanics are hoping to start a revolution by harnessing steam power and thus leveling the technological playing field. Shanna Swendson, Rebel Mechanics - This YA steampunk/alternate history tale is set in a world where the American Revolution never took place because the British upper classes have magical powers that give them access to technologies (such as electricity and automobiles) that the American colonists lack. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Instead of reading Sybil, read Sybil Exposed. It was later proven to be written in 1945, because Shirley said she had been reading a book not published in 1941, and the journal was written in ballpoint.which didn't exist in 1941. Flora was doubting SHirley's story, and to make her stay with the project, Shirley gave her a journal from 1941, with proof that she had been switching personalities before meeting Connie. In fact, when talking to another theripest, Shirley asked if he wanted her to "act like Marcia," and when he said no, she said, "Oh, Connie is always telling me to act like Peggy or Tim, or." Shirley developed all of her "personalities" after working with Dr. Extensive research has been done on Sybil's case, and it has been proven that the entire book was fictious. ![]() The main genius, I think, of King's device is to keep us guessing for most of the book. It is simply an enjoyable, fast-paced, thrilling read which also happens to be very well written. The typeface is a handy size (adding to the page count) and there's nothing in here that requires heavy duty lifting when it comes to ideas or plot devices. The book is long - 842 pages and probably didn't need to be. ![]() When I heard that King had devised a plot in which a time traveler goes back and tries to 'fix things' by stopping Lee Harvey Oswald in that odious room in that depressing School Book Depository building in 1963 Dallas, my immediate thought was: why didn't someone think of this sooner? How could it not? In so many ways, it was the end of our country's innocence. ![]() ![]() The Kennedy assassination still lives in the memory of those of us of a certain age and always will. When you read this novel, you’ll come across this word ‘shi’, pronounced ‘sheye’. If you like cliffhangers, don’t say I didn’t warn you. It’s not a cliffhanger in the conventional sense of the word. Part 2 does not end with the opening stages of a space battle but does drop a bombshell in terms of new information that could lead to more battles. ![]() Some readers don’t like that while other readers expect it. Part 1 ended with a cliffhanger (start of a space battle) on the last page. ![]() Therefore I don’t recommend buying Part 2 until you’ve read Part 1.
